I’m a hobby photographer, aspiring world-traveler, crazy/fun single aunt & a passionate mental health advocate.
Hi! My name’s Alina Chavez
A “small town girl with big city dreams” is how I always referred to myself. I thought that vision would change when I turned 30. It hasn’t.
I was raised in a really small town in Florida, a town too small to handle me. Eventually moved to Los Angeles because impulsive is my middle name. Kidding. I actually don’t even have a middle name, but acting on impulse has led to some pretty valuable life experiences. I didn’t stay in Cali for more than a year, I ended up back in Tampa. & that’s where my mental health journey began.
I often get asked why I’m so passionate about mental health. People always ask why it’s so important to me and why I’m constantly sharing. Truth is, because it affects my life. I have multiple diagnoses, I take medication daily, and attend therapy weekly. You can’t really tell by looking at me, but every day is a fight to survive. So now that I’m willing to fight every day, now that I actually have found the will to live, I want to share my story with you.
I hope hearing my story helps you in some way. I used to want to be “Famous” but I didn’t understand why. Now I know, it’s not fame that I wanted, it was just to be heard.
My hope is that I can help educate people, even just a little, about mental illness. I want to do my part to help break the stigma. I strongly believe that together, we can make a difference.
Thank you for listening!
